Become a volunteer

The RAVE relies on volunteers for the organization to function. Volunteers help with individual sports, as well as organizational tasks and events. We are continually looking for volunteers to support the work of the RAVE.

Here are examples of the ways that a person can volunteer with the RAVE:

  • Coach: The RAVE is always looking for volunteer coaches. To get started, see the Become a coach page.
  • Sport Team Manager: – Each team should have a team manager to help with organizational tasks throughout the season. Team managers support the coaches and assist with such tasks as competition registration, equipment and uniform management, communication with athletes during the season, and end-of-season events. If interested in becoming a Sport Team Manager, contact the head coach of the sport to discuss the responsibilities and time commitment. Sport Team Managers need to complete the Volunteer Application and Level 1 Training
  • Unified Partners: Unified Partners are non-disabled athletes who partner with Special Olympic athletes for certain events. Unified partners practice and compete with the athletes in events such as Unified Tennis Doubles, Unified Bowling Doubles, and Unified Bocce Doubles. Unified Partners must complete the Volunteer Application and Level 1 Training
  • Lifeguard: Lifeguards are needed for our aquatics team practices.
  • Single Event Volunteers: The RAVE relies on volunteer support for activities such as end-of-season celebrations, helping to coordinate the RAVE participation in the Polar Plunge, fundraising activities, back-up support during competitions, and organizing the RAVE contingent in the annual Fourth of July parade.
  • Local Sports Management Team (LSMT): The LSMT is a committee of volunteers that oversees the RAVE delegation operations. Positions include a Head of Delegation, a Sport Coordinator, a Finance Coordinator, a Communications Coordinator, a Medical Forms Coordinator, and a Fundraising Coordinator.
  • State events -There are also volunteer opportunities at the state level.  See Volunteers – Special Olympics Minnesota
