Requirements 

Athletes with an up-to-date athlete application and medical form on file with Special Olympics Minnesota are eligible to participate.   These forms need to be updated every every year.

Swim Season

The 2026 swim season starts March 1 and goes through June 26.

Practices

Practices will take place at Black Hawk Middle School and Falcon Ridge Middle School. Swimmers should be in at pool and ready to swim at the session start time. The practice sessions will be divided up as follows.

• 6:15 pm to 6:45 pm – Beginners
• 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm – Intermediate
• 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm – Advanced

Competitions

The regional competition is on Sunday, April 26, at the Eden Prairie Community Center, 16700 Valley View Rd, Eden Prairie, MN 55346. There is no state competition because of the USA Games being held in Minnesota in June.

Events

The following events are offered in distances of 25 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters.  There are ultra-long events as well. There is a 15-meter freestyle available for flotation, assisted and unassisted.

• Freestyle
• Butterfly
• Breast Stroke
• Back Stroke

There is also a Medley Event that consists of one pool length of each stroke.

The RAVE typically has several teams participating in the 4 x 25 meter relay. Participation is limited based on a number of factors including experience, level of commitment, and number of athletes available at a given level.
