Swimming

Requirements 

Athletes with an up-to-date athlete application and medical form on file with Special Olympics Minnesota are eligible to participate.   These forms need to be updated every every year.

Swim Season

Swim season typically takes place from March until June. Practices take place on of the District 196 pools.

Competitions

There is typically a regional competition in April and a state competition in June. In 2026, there is no state competition because of the US Games being held in Minnesota in June.

Events

The following events are offered in distances of 25 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters.  There are ultra-long events as well. There is a 15-meter freestyle available for flotation, assisted and unassisted.

  • Freestyle
  • Butterfly
  • Breast Stroke
  • Back Stroke

There is also a Medley Event that consists of one pool length of each stroke.

The RAVE typically has several teams participating in the 4 x 25 meter relay. Participation is limited based on a number of factors including experience, level of commitment, and number of athletes available at a given level.
