Requirements 

Athletes with an up-to-date athlete application and medical form on file with Special Olympics Minnesota are eligible to participate.   These forms need to be updated every three years.

Registration/Information Night

The registration and information meeting is THURSDAY, January 30, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., Black Hawk Middle School, 1540 Deerwood Dr., Eagan, MN 55123. Parents are caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend as important information about the season will be shared. Click here for the registration form.

Swim Season

The first practice is on Sunday, March 2, and continues on Sunday nights through June 15, with no practice on March 23, March 30, April 20, April 27, May 11, and May 25. Click here for the season schedule. All practices take place at Black Hawk Middle School. Swimmers should be in the pool and ready to swim at the session start time.

The practice sessions will be divided up as follows.

  • 6:15 pm to 6:45 pm – Beginners
  • 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm – Intermediate
  • 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm – Advanced

First practice: Returning swimmers will be assigned to the same session as prior seasons and new swimmers will be assigned a session for the first practice. The coaches will assess all swimmers at first practice and make final assignments for session balance.

Competitions

Regional competition: Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Catherine’s University

State competition: June 20 -22, 2025 at the University of Minnesota.

For area and state competitions, athletes can compete in up to three events and one relay.

Important: In order to compete at the state meet, the athlete must compete in the regional meet. Athletes who wish to compete in a relay must be able to participate in both the regional and state competition.

Events

The following events are offered in distances of 25 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters.  There are ultra-long events as well. There is a 15-meter freestyle available for flotation, assisted and unassisted.

  • Freestyle
  • Butterfly
  • Breast Stroke
  • Back Stroke

There is also a Medley Event that consists of one pool length of each stroke.

The RAVE typically has several teams participating in the 4 x 25 meter relay. Participation is limited based on a number of factors including experience, level of commitment, and number of athletes available at a given level.
