ATHLETES

All athletes must be registered at the state level. Each year athletes must also renew their medical information with the state. In 2026, Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) moved from paper forms to an online portal system for all athletes.

New athletes

Parents and guardians can start the process of signing up their athlete with Special Olympics by creating a parent/guardian account through the SOMN online portal. Once they create a profile using their information, parents/guardians will be able to register their athlete and submit the required information and forms.

Athletes who are their own guardians are also able to create their own account and register through the portal.

Current athletes

For current RAVE athletes not yet on the new athlete portal, parents and guardians can start the process by creating a parent/guardian account. Once an account is created, parents/guardians will be able to register their athlete and submit the annual medical information form electronically within their account.

Current RAVE athletes already registered in the portal can submit their annual medical information form and update their contact information through the portal.

Determining if your medical information/registration form is current

In 2024, Special Olympics Minnesota changed the rules regarding the application/medical form so that now the form is submitted annually and a physical is no longer required. The new rules became effective August 15, 2024.

• Forms that were submitted prior to August 15, 2024, are valid for 3 years. 

• Forms submitted after August 15, 2024, need to be completed annually.

VOLUNTEERS/COACHES

Prospective volunteers/coaches

Information on how to become a coach or volunteer can be found on the SOMN website.

Prospective coaches/volunteers will be asked to apply to SOMN through the online portal. Parents and guardians who already have an online account can apply to be a coach through the “volunteer zone” in their own account.

Current coaches

Current RAVE coaches are asked to create an account through the online portal. If a coach is a parent or guardian and already has an account on the portal, they can add their coach status by adding their information in the “volunteer zone” in their account.
